Amazon Facilitates Access to Its Advanced GenAI Model Nova

Generative AI solution Amazon Nova and its derivatives are now available to developers and tech enthusiasts through a separate dedicated website and SDK.

Amazon Facilitates Access to Its Advanced GenAI Model Nova

Amazon unveiled a new website resource nova.amazon.com, designed for developers and other interested persons to explore the company’s foundation models in a simpler and more efficient way.

Amazon Nova is a collection of powerful AI models created by the tech giant to improve different AI apps. These foundation models are built to deliver efficiency and affordability while processing various types of data, such as text, images, and videos. They generate text, code, and images with natural language prompts.

The core components of Amazon Nova include:

  • Amazon Nova Micro – a text-only cost-effective model for low-latency responses. It excels in text summaries, translation, content classification, interactive chat, simple mathematical reasoning and coding.
  • Amazon Nova Lite – a multimodal model that processes images, video, and text inputs to generate text responses. The model is designed for real-time customer interactions, document analysis, and visual question-answering tasks.
  • Amazon Nova Pro – a highly capable multimodal model suitable for complex reasoning tasks, video summarization, question answering, mathematical reasoning, software development, and AI agents that can execute multistep workflows.

The company is also developing a range of additional tools for its Nova solution suite. For instance, the company has recently presented Nova Reel software that allows users to generate six-second or longer videos, which can be used for displaying products on the Amazon website or for other purposes. Another recent update is Nova Canvas – a state-of-the-art image generation model enabling advanced customisation and editing for creative projects.

Along with the dedicated website, the company introduced the Amazon Nova Act – an AI agent capable of performing actions within a web browser. Nova Act can navigate, interact with, and perform certain required actions with web content without constant human oversight. It can handle various user tasks such as searching for products, adding items to a cart, checking out, and paying for orders. The tool also enables developers to break down complex workflows into separate atomic commands and add more detailed instructions to those commands where necessary.

Developers can already start experimenting with an early version of Nova Act through the Amazon Nova Act SDK, available as a research preview. This testing stage allows developers, researchers, and users to try it out, provide feedback, and help refine it before a full-scale launch.

“We’ve created this experience to inspire builders, so that they can quickly test their ideas with Nova models, and then implement them at scale in Amazon Bedrock. It is an exciting step forward for rapid exploration with AI, including bleeding-edge capabilities such as the Nova Act SDK for building agents that take actions on the web. We’re excited to see what they build and to hear their useful feedback.”

Rohit Prasad, SVP of Amazon Artificial General Intelligence

The new capabilities are initially available to U.S.-based customers. The owners of an Amazon account in the U.S., go to nova.amazon.com to start exploring. They can also download Nova Act to create AI agents.

AI agents are the most discussed innovations in the AI space. The tools can make complex decisions without human intervention and autonomously execute a range of tasks. Their potential is huge, so there are numerous startups in the field working on automating complex workflows with agentic AI. Besides, developers are not focusing solely on agentic AI itself, but also on the connected infrastructure such as agent app stores or marketplaces.

Although initially, we saw a range of American companies working on the concept, today there is more competition coming from their Chinese counterparts. It reminds the situation with Chinese AI LLM – DeepSeek, that made quite a fuss in the tech market recently.
