Amazon Launches Dedicated Marketplace for Ireland

Amazon has officially launched the Amazon.ie platform, bringing customers in Ireland direct access to over 200 million products at great prices in Euro, with fast and hassle-free delivery and easy returns.

Amazon Launches Dedicated Marketplace for Ireland

E-commerce giant Amazon announced the launch of its Irish marketplace – Amazon.ie – which offers local customers one-day delivery on millions of products, with clear local pricing in euros and no extra customs fees.

Besides the availability of global merchants, soon, Irish businesses of all sizes will also be featured on a dedicated “Brands of Ireland” page, making it easier for customers to discover their favourite local brands while helping these enterprises thrive. Irish brands available at launch include Barry’s Tea, Bewley’s, and independent fitness brand Swifter.

Before the introduction of the dedicated Irish website, many customers in Ireland shopped through Amazon’s UK and other European sites. The launch of Amazon.ie aims to offer a more localized shopping experience for local consumers, hassle-free payments in local currency, faster deliveries, and easier returns.

Additionally, Irish customers can now join Amazon Prime on Amazon.ie for just €6.99 per month and enjoy the best offers and promotions in shopping, savings, and entertainment. Benefits include fast, free delivery, exclusive deals and events like Prime Day, popular TV shows and movies, live sports on Prime Video, free games on Prime Gaming and free channel subscription on Twitch, photo and video storage, and special offers from partners like the Odeon cinemas and Deliveroo.

Irish customers with existing UK Prime memberships can easily switch. Their UK membership will be automatically cancelled and refunded. To test the new service, all customers, whether new or switching from other regional marketplaces, can sign up for a 30-day free trial of Amazon.ie Prime.

Amazon has a strong presence in Ireland, with around 6,500 employees across Cork, Dublin, and Drogheda in roles like data engineering, operations, and finance. Since 2004, Amazon has invested over €22 billion in its Irish operations and opened six sites in the country. In 2023, small Irish businesses selling on Amazon made over €170 million in export sales, with more than half of that outside the EU. These businesses have also created over 2,500 jobs in Ireland to support their growth on Amazon.

Alison Dunn, Ireland country manager at Amazon, said the team has been building towards the launch of a dedicated Irish e-commerce platform since the launch of the firm’s fulfilment centre in Dublin in 2022. Micheál Martin, Taoiseach (Prime Minister) of Ireland, and Peter Burke, Ireland’s minister for Enterprise, Tourism, and Employment, also welcomed the news, describing it as a benefit for both local consumers and small businesses.
