The Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company PJSC (du) on Tuesday, April 22, announced a 2 billion dirhams ($544.54 million) hyperscale data center deal with Microsoft.
In a statement released by du, it was noted that the mentioned functional object’s capacity will be delivered in tranches. It was also overlined that the hyperscale data center will have Microsoft as the main tenant.
Hyperscale centers are large facilities that are primarily used to provide data storage and cloud computing services to businesses at scale.
Fahad Al Hassawi, chief executive officer of du, said that the deal, made during Dubai AI Week, represents a pivotal leap in the company’s strategic goal to revolutionize the digital ecosystem of the United Arab Emirates.
Currently, the mentioned firm operates five data centers across the UAE, which has been heavily investing to become a global hub for artificial intelligence outside of the United States.
During the period of active development of machine intelligence, the importance of data centers has increased dramatically. In this context, it is also worth noting that the issue of cybersecurity has become more relevant against the background of the emerging era of artificial intelligence. Scammers also have access to digital intelligence tools. For this reason, their activities have become more sophisticated. Personal awareness of users is important to counter the threat of using artificial intelligence for fraudulent purposes in the virtual space. For example, an Internet search query such as how to know if my camera is hacked will allow anyone to get information about signs of unauthorized access to the device.
