Elon Musk’s xAI has unveiled its latest artificial intelligence model called Grok 3.
The mentioned brand claims that its newest digital product can surpass the digital intelligence systems from OpenAI and DeepSeek. The relevant statement is based on the results of early testing, which included standardized tests in mathematics, science, and coding.
Elon Musk posted a message on the social media platform X, which belongs to him, that Grok 3 is more capable than Grok 2.
Also, xAI announced the launch of a new product called Deep Search. The company claims that this functional system will operate as a next-generation search engine.
Grok 3 is available for premium X subscribers starting Tuesday, February 18. This digital product will also be available through a separate subscription for the web version of the artificial intelligence model and the app.
Last week, during a speech at The World Governments Summit in Dubai, Elon Musk stated that Grok 3 is a scary smart model of machine intelligence with powerful reasoning capabilities. At that time, he also noted that this digital product outperformed all existing artificial intelligence models in xAI’s internal tests. Besides, Elon Musk stated that Grok 3 was trained based on a large amount of synthetic data and demonstrated the ability to reflect upon its mistakes to achieve logical consistency.
The xAI team noted that an early iteration of the mentioned artificial intelligence model had been given better ratings than existing competitors on Chatbot Arena, a crowdsourced website that compares different AI models against each other in blind tests.
Elon Musk said that the improvement of Grok 3 will continue. He noted that currently, this model of artificial intelligence operates in the format of the beta version, which means there is a high probability of certain imperfections. At the same time, Elon Musk underlined that xAI will improve Grok 3 rapidly. He also stated that voice assistance for this artificial intelligence model will be released at a later time.
Elon Musk founded xAI in 2023. It is worth noting that he has repeatedly publicly made statements about the potential dangers of artificial intelligence. Currently, xAI is a player in the generative machine intelligence market. OpenAI, which developed ChatGPT, one of the world’s most popular chatbots powered by artificial intelligence, is also present in this market. It is worth mentioning that Elon Musk is one of the founders of the mentioned startup. Over time, he resigned from the board of directors of OpenAI due to a possible conflict of interest.
In September, ChatGPT developer launched its most advanced artificial intelligence model, o1, which has reasoning abilities and can solve relatively complex scientific, coding, and math problems.
Elon Musk and Sam Altman helped found OpenAI as a non-profit organization in 2015. In recent years, there has been feuding between Mr. Musk and the management of the mentioned startup. Elon Musk led a group of investors who submitted a proposal to buy the brand’s nonprofit parent for $97.4 billion. OpenAI declined this proposal.
Elon Musk accuses the mentioned startup of the fact that its initial goal, which was to develop artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity, was eventually replaced by another priority, which provides for the dominance of commercial interest.
Last month, Chinese brand DeepSeek shocked the machine intelligence market by publishing a technical paper claiming that one of its open-source virtual intelligence models was capable of competing with OpenAI o1 in performance, despite using a cheaper and less energy-intensive process. The mentioned artificial intelligence developer has achieved success in an environment where the United States has restricted Chinese sales of advanced Nvidia graphics processing units that are used to train AI models.
Nowadays, xAI has a Colossus supercomputer for machine intelligence training. Last year, this supercomputer used a cluster of 100,000 cutting-edge Nvidia graphics processing units. At the current week, xAI announced that it has doubled the size of its GPU cluster for Grok 3 training.
Currently, many experts in the area of artificial intelligence and technology have stated that DeepSeek has increased competition in the AI industry. Some analysts claim that the Chinese developer of machine intelligence has demonstrated the ability to achieve success using less advanced technologies. At the same time, other analysts are showing skepticism about the impact of results demonstrated by DeepSeek.
Elon Musk announced Grok about two years ago. Initially, he positioned this model of artificial intelligence as edgy, unfiltered, and anti-woke. In the relevant context, it is implied that the mentioned AI model can answer controversial questions that other digital intelligence systems avoid. Grok and Grok 2 can be vulgar. In this case, it is envisaged that artificial intelligence, at the request of the user, can generate verbal constructions that other chatbots identify as unacceptable.
