Fiserv Brings Clover POS to Australia

Smart POS platform Clover, created by Fiserv, is launching in Australia to power local SMEs.

Fiserv Brings Clover POS to Australia

Fiserv has expanded its popular point-of-sale (POS) solution, Clover, to the Australian market to help local merchants avoid fragmentation in payment systems and facilitate their scaling processes.

Clover is marketed as “the smartest” POS platform due to its all-in-one approach, extensive functionality, customisation and flexibility. The solution accepts credit/debit cards, mobile wallets, and contactless payments via several personalised POS hardware tools (Clover Flex, Clover Mini, Clover Station, Clover Compact, and Flex Pocket) that are designed to fit different business needs.

Beyond payment processing, Clover offers integrated business management features enabling merchants to track sales, manage inventory, process orders, and handle internal processes such as employee scheduling. With the late 2024 offering update, the company added another suite of tools for small businesses to Clover functionality. Those include employee management, payroll, customer loyalty programs, and gift cards integrated into specialised software to simplify operations, along with financial solutions such as cash discounting, cash advances, and instant or same-day transfers.

For restaurant providers, Clover has special self-service offerings like Clover Kiosk and an enhanced 24” Clover Kitchen Display System, which enable end-to-end order management at lower cost. Additionally, the platform supports third-party apps to improve business functionality for restaurants, retail stores, and other service providers. All customer and merchant data on the platform is stored online, allowing business owners to access sales and reports in a cloud environment from anywhere.

Australian businesses initially gain access to four Clover POS models to suit different operational needs: the handheld Clover Flex, the compact Clover Mini, the larger dual-screen Station Duo, and the self-service Clover Kiosk.

Clover is widely adopted by businesses globally. As of 2024, there were approximately 3.5 million Clover devices in operation across ten countries, including the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Austria, and Argentina. Australia became 11th on the list of available regions.

The company bears plans for further expansion of the Clover solution. Earlier this month, Fiserv acquired Dutch paytech CCV, which serves approximately 600,000 businesses across the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany, for an undisclosed sum to “accelerate the deployment of its Clover platform and operating system across Europe”. With the acquisition, Clover’s merchant and partner bases will be combined with CCV and the latter’s customers will get access to Fiserv’s wider suite of financial services.

Gavin Jones, Country Manager of Fiserv Australia, said that small businesses in Australia, especially in retail and hospitality, are key to the local economy. He noted that 98% of Australian businesses belong to the SME category. Unfortunately, they are often forced to use disconnected systems with limited support. That negatively affects the operations of Australian SMEs. He explained that Clover offers advanced technology and strong support to help them grow. He also mentioned that since two-thirds of small businesses want to expand, Clover can help them adopt technology to stay competitive in a fast-changing market.
