On Friday, February 28, the media published information according to which Intel’s $28 billion chip manufacturing plants in Ohio are facing further delays.
Also, according to the mentioned information, the construction of a new production site in New Albany will be completed no earlier than 2030. It is expected that the operation of the first plant will be launched in 2030 or 2031. It is worth noting that the media published relevant data referring to Intel, which is currently making efforts to restore its position in the chip manufacturing area, which has weakened significantly over the past few years.
The value of the shares of the company, which initially planned to launch the operation of factories for making microcircuits in Ohio in 2025, showed an increase of more than 5%.
Intel has been cutting capital expenses after its expensive bid to become a contract manufacturer of chips for other firms, aimed at restoring former glory, strained the balance sheet.
The decision on changes related to the launch of the plants in Ohio was made to align the company’s factory operations with market demand and better manage capital responsibly. This was reported by media cited Naga Chandrasekaran, general manager of Intel Foundry Manufacturing, as saying in a message to workers.
The company’s second plant in Ohio is expected to not be completed until at least 2031. The operation of this production site will be launched in 2032.
Intel did not respond to a media request for comment on the mentioned information.
