Microsoft Reportedly Develops AI Reasoning Models

In this case, the informant of the journalists is a person involved in the mentioned initiative of a technology giant based in Redmond, Washington. This insider also reported that Microsoft has started testing artificial intelligence models from xAI, Meta, and DeepSeek. As part of the mentioned actions, the technology giant aims to find potential OpenAI replacements in Copilot.

Moreover, an informant for journalists, said that Microsoft intends to sell in-house artificial intelligence reasoning models to developers in the future.

It is worth noting that the Redmond-based technology giant has already demonstrated its desire to reduce dependence on the ChatGPT maker. It’s remarkable that this desire is observed against the background of close cooperation between Microsoft and OpenAI. It is also worth noting that it was the interaction with the ChatGPT developer that allowed the company to become one of the leaders of the global artificial intelligence race, which involves all major technology firms.

In December, the media revealed that Microsoft is working on adding internal and third-party machine intelligence models to its flagship 365 Copilot product. At that time, it was noted that the company was seeking to diversify from the current underlying technology of OpenAI and reduce costs.

When Microsoft announced 365 Copilot in 2023, the use of OpenAI’s GPT-4 model was positioned as the main advantage of this product.

The media reported that Microsoft’s artificial intelligence unit, led by Mustafa Suleyman, has completed the training of the AI models family, internally referred to as MAI. This team is also a training reasoning model.
