Nvidia Corp. chief executive officer Jensen Huang arrived in Beijing after the administration of United States President Donald Trump barred the company from the sale of the H20 artificial intelligence chip to China.
A social media account affiliated with state-run China television published a message according to which Mr. Huang arrived in the Asian country at the invitation of a domestic trade group.
Nvidia is one of the main beneficiaries of the so-called artificial intelligence boom. The company develops advanced chips that are necessary for training and ensuring the subsequent operation of AI systems.
The timing of Jensen Huang’s visit to China is unusual, especially considering that he dined with Donald Trump about a week ago. Also in this context, it is worth mentioning that this week Nvidia warned of a $5.5 billion writedown due to US restrictions on the export of artificial intelligence chips. These restrictions have become a sensitive factor in the negative impact on the company’s product line, which was developed specifically for the Chinese market and meets the previous requirements of the United States for foreign shipments of goods.
Currently, there is a trade and technological confrontation between Washington and Beijing, which is gradually approaching a peak escalation. At the same time, US technology companies are interested in continuing to interact with the huge Chinese market. The complete loss of the opportunity to sell products in an Asian country will mean significant financial losses for the mentioned firms.
As reported by Chinese media, during a visit to Beijing, Jensen Huang told the head of the trade group that China remains a very important market for Nvidia, which will optimize its chip products to comply with the United States export controls.
Also, the mentioned media reported that the leader of the company met with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng. It was noted that the head of Nvidia expressed optimism about the economic prospects of the Asian country and confirmed the firm’s commitment to exploring the local market and playing an active role in promoting the US-China economic and trade cooperation.
Western media, citing anonymous informants, reported that Jensen Huang also met with DeepSeek founder Liang Wenfeng.
