Revolut mobile plans stand out with their unlimited calls, texts and data offering complemented with an attractive roaming proposition.
Fintech company Revolut has announced plans to launch its own mobile phone service called Mobile Plans. The service will first roll out in the UK and Germany, with other countries to follow.
These plans will include unlimited calls, texts, and data within the user’s home country, plus 20GB of roaming data for use across Europe and the U.S. Each plan comes with a local phone number and no long-term contract. Users who have been leveraging the services of other mobile network providers can also keep their existing mobile number and transfer it over to the new Mobile Plan.
Residents of the UK and Germany can already join a waitlist to be among the first to try the new mobile services from Revolut and qualify for an introductory price of £12.50 per month.
Revolut’s launch of Mobile Plans is part of its push into full mobile services, aiming to compete with traditional telecom companies. The company was one of the first players in the industry to offer its customers mobile-related solutions last year.
In 2024, Revolut introduced global eSIMs, helping customers stay connected while travelling. Unlike regular SIM cards that need to be inserted into your phone, eSIMs are built into the device itself. The small chip inside the phone holds everything needed to connect to a mobile network, making it easier to switch carriers and manage your connection without dealing with physical parts.
The service quickly gained popularity, with users creating millions of data plans across over 100 countries. As eSIMs have now become Revolut’s most-used product outside of banking, the firm continues its forays into the telecom sphere.
The UK was chosen as one of the primary markets for the service, as its citizens have faced growing costs of using mobile data overseas. Several mobile providers, including BT, Vodafone, and Three, have hiked roaming charges after the UK left the European Union. Previously, EU regulations mandated free roaming across member states, but since Brexit, British mobile phone users cannot enjoy this privilege anymore. Although some service providers still offer free roaming up to a certain time cap, most charge about £2 per day for this data use type.
In Germany, eSIM providers are already quite popular. They offer both local data and international roaming plans, flexible subscription options, easy online activation, multi-device compatibility, exclusive discounts, free trials, and bundled services. Revolut can differentiate itself in the market, though, by complementing eSIM services with its own mobile plans, creating a one-stop shop for all things mobile. Besides, mobile phone plans in Germany vary in cost. For those requiring more data, plans can be comparatively expensive, so Revolut’s unlimited offerings may be an attractive alternative.
In addition, Mobile Plans will be integrated into the Revolut app, making it much easier to use than typical phone services. Users will be able to track their subscription usage and manage plans directly in the app. They’ll also have the option to pay for their mobile plan using RevPoints, Revolut’s reward points earned from purchases.
