Nvidia on Monday, April 14, announced that it has commissioned more than a million square feet of production space to build and test artificial intelligence chips in Arizona and Texas.
The mentioned actions of the company are part of the process of implementing efforts to move its production to the United States. Nvidia is the world’s largest developer of microcircuits, which are necessary for training and ensuring the subsequent functioning of artificial intelligence systems.
The company said that the manufacturing process of its Blackwell chips has already begun at TSMC’s plants in Phoenix, Arizona. Nvidia is also currently building supercomputer-making factories in Texas. In this case, the company’s joint projects with Foxconn in Houston and with Wistron in Dallas are meant. Nvidia also collaborates with Amkor and SPIL in Arizona. In this case, it means projects in the areas of packaging and testing operations.
Mass production at the Houston and Dallas plants is expected to ramp up in the next 12-15 months. Nvidia also plans to produce artificial intelligence infrastructure worth up to $500 billion in the United States over the next four years.
The company’s chief executive officer Jensen Huang stated that engines of the world’s AI infrastructure are being built in the US for the first time.
Nvidia claims that its chip manufacturing initiatives in the United States could create hundreds of thousands of jobs and drive trillions of dollars in economic activity in the coming decades. At the same time, these intentions face challenges. In the relevant context, it is worth mentioning retaliatory tariffs and trade restrictions from China, which threaten the supply of raw materials for making microcircuits in the United States. There is also a shortage of skilled frontline workers in the US for assembling chips.
Nvidia is one of the main beneficiaries of the so-called artificial intelligence boom. Last year, the company’s market capitalization exceeded $3 trillion.
