Porter Airlines, BMO & Mastercard Unveil New Credit Card to Boost Travel Rewards for Canadians

Porter Airlines, BMO – one of Canada’s largest banks, and Mastercard are launching the BMO VIPorter Mastercard credit card suite in spring 2025 to boost travel rewards for Canadians.

The new card will accelerate VIPorter point earnings within the airlines’ loyalty program through everyday spending and offer benefits such as redeeming points for flights with no blackout dates across Porter’s expanding North American network as well as the company’s growing list of global airline partners.

Furthermore, BMO and Porter plan to continue strategically working together to deliver more programs able to make travel more convenient and rewarding for Canadian customers. A pre-launch waitlist is already open, and early enrollees will receive special offers. Namely, eligible waitlist applicants can earn an extra 10,000 VIPorter points in addition to a welcome bonus.

Porter’s VIPorter loyalty program offers full points on all flights, even Basic economy fares, making it unique in Canada. Frequent travellers (called Avid Travellers within the program) earn rewards faster and gain extra perks. Points can be used to pay for any seat with no blackout dates, and members can redeem flights either fully with points or through a cash-plus-points option. Spending $3,000 a year unlocks free PorterReserve flight certificates, and members can roll over up to $3,000 in spending to qualify for benefits more quickly the next year.

Porter Airlines is a Canadian regional airline headquartered in Toronto. It is known for its premium economy service at competitive prices. The airline primarily operates out of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport and has expanded to major Canadian and U.S. destinations with its growing jet fleet.

Airline-branded credit cards are very popular among both leisure and business travellers. Overall, co-branded credit cards take a significant 62% share of the U.S. consumer credit market and have a significant presence in Canada. Loyalty points are the second most-thought-for benefit in co-branded credit products after cashback. Frequent brand users also enjoy additional travel perks, such as free checked bags, priority boarding, hotel upgrades, or special discounts.
